The February 2019 Keytesville Chamber of Commerce met at the Café at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019. Members in attendance were President Carla Watts, Lowell Newsom, Janet Weaver, Nancy Coy, Susan Creason, Megan Fox, Nathan & Michelle Asbury, Melissa Wilhoit, Wendy Huntsman, and Clayton Enyeart.

President Watts called the meeting to order and asked for a motion for the secretary’s minutes to be approved. Nancy moved the secretary’s minutes to be approved with Clayton seconding that motion. All members present voted favorably.

The Treasurer’s report was presented by Carla Watts (retiring 2018 treasurer) who stated the current balance of $5,883.64. It was clarified that the $50 donated to the Keytesville Lion’s Club was for the upcoming Trivia Night. Carla asked for a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Lowell made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report with Wendy seconding. All members present voted favorably.

Under old business, the slate of officers for 2019 was to be voted upon at this meeting, and is as follows: Carla Watts, President, Laurinda Littleton, VP, Clayton Enyeart, Secretary, and Nancy Coy, Treasurer. Megan moved to approve the slate of officers and Janet seconded it. All members present voted favorably.

As old business continued, the trash receptacle project was discussed. Nathan announced that he had recently spoken with RTS, and that RTS is willing to provide and service the trash receptacles for no charge. They would provide two receptacles at the Community Center and two at the Farmer’s Market.

Under new business, considering the substantial amount of money the trash receptacle project saves the Chamber, another use of the money saved was discussed. No decision was made about another possible use of the saved money, but was to be kept in mind for the near future.

Fundraiser ideas were discussed and a decision was made to do a gift card basket. A gift card basket has been done the past two years with great success. As done in previous years, it was decided that the Garden Gallery in Salisbury design the basket display. Chamber businesses will be contacted and asked to donate gift cards and/or money towards the basket. The Chamber will pay for and provide the remaining amount needed. Discussion was made about when and where to sell tickets. It was decided that tickets for the basket be sold at the Keytesville basketball tournament March 10 – 14.

Keytesville Housing was chosen for the free 2020 Chamber membership. As discussed in the previous meeting, a free meal has replaced the donut recipient of the month. Sehlke Trucking was chosen for the free meal to take place at the March meeting. Reische Insurance was chosen for business of the month for March, however after contact was made, they have chosen not to join the chamber this year and did not wish to have an article done. Another recipient was picked at random, that member being Keytesville School.

Janet mentioned that she is still attempting to interview Deanna Wright at Casey’s for the previous business of the Month feature, as well as to speak with her regarding the letter writing campaign to Casey’s HQ for Keytesville to have a larger store.

The date for the next Chamber of Commerce meeting was set for Monday, March 18, 2019 at noon at The Café.
